Mr. Srivatsa Krishna, IAS is Secretary to Government of Karnataka, Department of Information Technology, Biotechnology and Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka. Srivatsa Krishna, topped India (1 out of about 500,000 candidates) in the National Civil Services Examination in 1994, was awarded President of India's Gold Medal and joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), India's top management government cadre.
He was part of the leadership team which pioneered E-governance in India and created one of Asia's largest IT and investment clusters, Cyberabad, which has been globally acclaimed by Goldman Sachs, Businessweek, The Economist, and TIME as a marvel of Modern India. Microsoft's only offshore software development center outside Redmond, Seattle, GE's largest back office center in the world, Amazon, Google, Oracle, IBM, Infosys, TCS are among the many Fortune 500 and key Indian companies that this team attracted to invest in Hitech City, Cyberabad. World Economic Forum at Davos honoured him as one of its Top 100 Young Global Leaders for Tomorrow in Davos in 2003.
He went on to become the first serving IAS officer to complete the MBA Program at Harvard Business School and is an alumnus of Oxford University as well. While at HBS, he co-authored a research study on creating clusters and competitiveness with Professor Michael Porter, the world renowned strategy guru and on disruptive innovation in emerging markets with Professor Clayton Christensen, the foremost thought leader in innovation in the world.
He has worked in Strategy, Finance and Risk Management Vice Presidency, The World Bank Group and IFC in Washington DC, running one of their largest capital investment funds budget/ performance management, offshoring and in various PPP projects. In 2008, he headed a study for the IFC on public private partnerships (PPP)/ private equity regulations in India that was commissioned from the highest levels of the Government of India. He is an invited member on the Global Infrastructure Advisory Board of McKinsey and Company, and the Porter Prize Steering Committee in his individual honorary capacity. He was recently awarded the Thinkers50 Prize, which recognizes the Top 50 management thinkers in India in 2013.
Srivatsa writes regularly for Times of India, Wall Street Journal, The Economic Times, Financial Times, etc. and is a prominent commentator on prime time national television on BBC, CNN, Times Now and BBC. He has spoken on the Global TED stage, The Economist India Annual Summit, Harvard Business School Centennial Summit, and World Economic Forum, Davos. He is currently completing his PhD at IIT, Madras.
Srivatsa has earned an official IMDB credit by singing playback for "Shanghai", a Bollywood production, about an IAS officer's life, whose main protagonist is inspired by his own life and is a keen student of Hindustani and Carnatic music.
