The Astronomy Club is dedicated to nurturing scientific curiosity and enhancing knowledge in the field of space and celestial phenomena at IIIT-Bangalore. Our club creates engaging opportunities for students to explore the wonders of astronomy through exciting star party observation nights, discussion, and hands-on experiences. We strive to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical exploration by organizing activities that foster collaborative learning and inspire critical thinking about the universe around us.
Our Aim:
- Promote awareness and interest in astronomy among the student community through interactive sessions and events
- Conduct educational seminars, observation sessions, and workshops that make astronomical events and concepts accessible to everyone
- Facilitate skill development in telescope handling, astrophotography, and sky navigation for both beginners and advanced enthusiasts
- Encourage active participation in inter-institutional collaborations and astronomy competitions to broaden learning experiences
Major Equipment and Resources:
Telescopes:
- GSO Dobsonian 10 inch professional telescope.
- Celestron LCM 114 Motorized Telescopes.
Lenses:
- 4mm, 9mm, 32mm Plossl lenses for various zoom levels
- T-adaptors, T-rings for Nikon and Sony Cameras for Astrophotography
Major Activities and Events:
- Regular observation sessions timed with significant celestial events like meteor showers, lunar eclipses, and planetary alignments.
- Annual celebrations of National Space Day featuring engaging themed quizzes and expert seminars from renowned astronomers.
- Active participation in stargazing sessions and collaborative events hosted by regional astronomy organizations.
