Assistant Professor
Education : Ph. D. (Indian Institute of Technology Patna)
Dr. Tulika Saha is an Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Data Science & Artificial Intelligence in the International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB), India. She also serves as an Honorary Lecturer at the Dept. of Computer Science in the University of Liverpool (UoL), United Kingdom (UK) where she worked earlier as a full-time Lecturer/Assistant Professor. She is also a part of the Natural Language Processing group at UoL. Prior to joining UoL, she worked with Prof. Sophia Ananiadou as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the National Centre for Text Mining (NaCTeM), University of Manchester, UK. She earned her Ph.D. in 2021 from Indian Institute of Technology Patna, India and is grateful to have Dr. Sriparna Saha and Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya as her Ph.D. supervisors.
Her primary research area is 'Natural Language Processing' (NLP). Mostly her research is aimed on developing 'Dialogue Systems' (DS) in multi-lingual and multi-modal framework navigating the challenges of different task domains and applications. Independent target is set on addressing all the primary modules of DS which includes 'Natural Language Understanding', 'Dialogue Policy Learning' and 'Natural Language Generation' using Deep Learning and Reinforcement Learning. Also interested in analyzing several aspects of human behavior and communication such as emotion, sentiment, sarcasm, humour etc. Investigations are being extended to analyse the content on 'social media' platforms such as Twitter and Reddit. She has also forayed into the area of 'NLP for Social Good' (such as Healthcare, Education, Legal Analytics, Climate etc.). She is also interested in making NLP systems 'Interpretable & Trustworthy'. Her research is also focused in the intersection of 'Vision and Language' such as Scene Graph Generation, Video Summarization etc. using LLMs, VLMs, MLLMs etc.
