IIIT Bangalore co-hosts 30-hour POLICE HACKATHON
Bengaluru Feb 4/ 5, 2023: The International Institute of Information Technology Bangalore (IIITB) co-hosted a 30-hour POLICE HACKATHON with the Karnataka State Police Department on Feb 4th and 5th at the institute campus.
The 2- day long hackathon saw 150+ participants, with some outstation participants as well. Participants comprised students, start-ups, corporate employees, concerned civic-tech enthusiasts. The hackathon started on 4th Feb morning with an inaugural function and got over by the 5th Feb evening by 5pm with a prize distribution ceremony.
The hackathon, which was organised in hybrid mode by the Karnataka State Police aimed at fixing issues like crowd-sourcing of records, missing person identification and fraud app detection using technologies like Data Science, AI and Machine Intelligence.
“IIIT Bangalore is proud to co-host a technical hackathon on digital environment security with Karnataka State Police and Ministry of Home, Govt of Karnataka. The hackathon will be in 5 different areas according to the requirement of the police department and it is very pertinent with respect to the multiple challenges everyone across the globe is facing. These 5 areas are close to our research and teaching at IIITB. Hence, we are hosting the hackathon in our campus so that young minds from across the country can come up with novel ideas to solve these problems,” apprised Prof Debabrata Das, Director, IIITB.
“Our institute professors have been advising the State Police Department on their various strategic & technology challenges. The Police department wanted to adopt new-age technologies to address some of the emerging challenges. Hence the idea of the Police Hackathon was born. In fact, some of the challenges posted here are quite interesting and revolving around "Data Science" an "AI / ML,” added Prof Das.
