IIIT-Bangalore concludes a global Valedictorian ceremony for 5,000+ Graduates with upGrad

 

Bengaluru, 23 September 2023: IIIT-Bangalore, a NIRF-ranked and NAAC A+ Accredited institute hosted a global graduation ceremony for its learners enrolled in the on-line Continuing Professional Education (CPE) programme, on 23rd September at the campus. The hybrid ceremony felicitated over 5,000 learners from Data Science, Software Development, and Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence certificate programs, who either joined physically or virtually from diverse geographies. These programmes were offered by IIIT-Bangalore in a technology platform partnership with upGrad, Asia’s largest integrated learning skilling and workforce development company.

 

Gracing the event with their presence were Chief Guest - Ms. Sindhu Gangadharan, SVP & MD at SAP Labs India; Prof Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT-Bangalore; and upGrad's Co-founder Mr Mayank Kumar.

 

The collaborative hybrid valedictory ceremony took place at the IIIT-Bangalore campus, uniting 700 in-person attendees, while simultaneously streaming live to over 3000 online participants, making it an inclusive celebration hosted by the Institute and upGrad. The batch embodies the readiness and vital skills required for the future workforce. Some of the top skills that the learners acquired during the program include Predictive Analytics using Python, Machine Learning, Data Visualization, Big Data, Natural Language Processing, Fundamentals of Computer Science, Software Development Processes, and Building Robust and Scalable Websites, among others. 

 

Ms Sindhu Gangadharan highlighted the exponential technology evolution in the above programmes areas and congratulated the gradates on embarking on an exciting journey to contribute significantly to the digital economy of India and the world. Prof. Das emphasized the importance of upskilling in the continually evolving fields of digital technologies as per the vision of the Government and pointed out the role of IIIT-Bangalore and upGrad in supporting India’s vision of reaching $1 trillion digital economy by 2026. He also highlighted that this year marks the end of the Silver Jubilee year of the Institute and that the Institute will accelerate its mission to enable India to play a key role in the global IT industry through its focus on education, research and innovation in cutting edge digital technology areas. 

 

Mayank Kumar, further commented on the wider adoption of emerging technologies that have been encouraging upGrad to ensure their innovation/pedagogy remains at par with the industry requirements and helps them build a market-ready talent pipeline. He further expressed excitement about recording an academic milestone which IIIT-Bangalore and upGrad, together, have achieved with this batch that brings a strong geographical diversity and represents India’s ambition of becoming a teaching capital.
