IIIT-Bangalore held its 24th Convocation on July 7, 2024, where 343 students graduated from various academic programs. These included 121 graduates from the Integrated Master of Technology program, 174 from the Master of Technology program, 14 from the Master of Science in Digital Society program, 23 from the Master of Science by Research program, and 11 Ph.D. scholars.
Prof. Debabrata Das, Director of IIIT-Bangalore, welcomed everyone and presented the annual report. Afterward, all graduating students received their certificates. The Chief Guest, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology, Government of India & Former Director of IIT Kanpur, addressed the students, saying, "Engineering education in India has advanced significantly, with IIIT-Bangalore leading the way. The institute's forward-thinking curriculum, including a unique master's program in digital society, prepares graduates for rapid technological changes. With over 100 projects, prestigious publications, and innovations in digital public infrastructure, AI, e-health, and 5G/6G technologies, IIIT-Bangalore excels. Notably, the MOSIP platform aids e-governance in over 20 countries. Graduates are encouraged to embrace interdisciplinary collaborations, foster creativity, and contribute to India's growth by becoming job creators rather than seekers."
Ms. Debjani Ghosh, President of NASSCOM and Guest of Honour, emphasized that this is an era of transformation and peak disruption, where constant change and AI level the playing field. She stated that success will depend on the graduates' ability to unlearn, learn, and adapt quickly, urging them to embrace lifelong learning and strive to be the best learners.
Padma Bhushan Mr. Kris Gopalakrishnan congratulated the students, highlighting that India has built a world-class industry setting global standards. He encouraged the graduates to strive for excellence and contribute globally, as IIIT-Bangalore has done despite its small size.
