The goal of post graduate programmes at IIIT-Bangalore is to develop professionals of high quality to cater to the needs of industry and academia. Such education will be based on a broad grasp of the fundamental principles of the sciences and scientific methods, a deep understanding of a specific area of specialization, an ability to solve new problems, and a capacity to learn continually and interact with multidisciplinary groups. Above all, IIIT-Bangalore aims at developing in its students a capacity for free and objective inquiry, courage and integrity, and awareness and sensitivity to the needs and aspirations of society. The postgraduate programmes are designed with the above goals in view. They include courses of study, seminars, project work, internships and research leading to a thesis.
The M.Tech in AI & DS is a two-year (4-semester) program. M.Tech (AI&DS) students in the first semester do the following foundational courses - Algorithms, Machine Learning, Math for ML and Neural Networks and Deep Learning. Electives are broadly categorized into Data and Systems (DAS), AI Theory (AIT), AI in data domains (AID) and AI in Application domains (AIX). Students are expected to do one elective which covers AI and Ethics OR Data and Society.
