Recognizing the need for professionals that can serve the demands of society's digital needs and disruptions, IIIT Bangalore invites applications for a two-year, full-time, interdisciplinary, Master’s degree in Digital Society, open to graduates from any discipline.

The programme is designed to create a group of professionals who will:

  • Contribute to the design, development and deployment of digital technologies for diverse social groups;
  • Provide and manage solutions that address persistent challenges in domains such as finance, education, governance, health and entertainment;
  • Engage in policy making and advocacy for deploying digital technologies; and 
  • Enrich interdisciplinary research on the digital society.

  1. Application:  Application is a three-step process: Registration --> Log in to Apply --> Application Fee Payment. For more information, visit How to Apply.
     
  2. Selection: Selection will be based on performance in the personal interview conducted by a panel of IIITB faculty, scores in the written test (or, in one of the four national level entrance tests mentioned above), and marks obtained in 10th, 12th and Undergraduate/Bachelor’s examinations. 
     
  3. Admission: The final list of candidates to be admitted will be decided after the interview. Selected Candidates will be notified through email by June 19, 2023. Classes begin on July 17, 2023.

 

 

Eligibility: 

  • An under-graduate degree (of at least 3 years duration) in any discipline (including arts, science, commerce, design, management, law, engineering etc.) with a first division/class from a recognised University.
  • Those expecting to graduate by 1st July 2023 may also apply.
  • The candidates who have a valid score in CAT 2022, CEED 2023, CUCET 2023 or TISS NET 2023 may be exempted from appearing for a written test at IIIT Bangalore.
 
Application and Admission Process: 
 
  • Applications will open on 1st July 2023. As a first step, register on the Pravesh Portal. After registration, you will receive your login credentials by email. Log in with your credentials on the same URL and start applying. For registration, use: https://pravesh.iiitb.net/#/
  • Applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1000/- as mentioned in the instructions on the aforesaid webpage.
  • Candidates whose application is found in order will have to take a written examination online conducted by IIIT Bangalore that will test numerical/quantitative, analytical, and design awareness. Sample questions for the entrance examination are available on the aforesaid webpage. 
  • Candidates who have a valid score in CAT 2022, CEED 2023, CUCET 2023 or TISS NET 2023 can be exempted from appearing for the written test depending on their scores. Such candidates will have to submit a copy of the scorecard.
  • All the shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an interview online through video calling application which will including a writing exercise to test their verbal, IT and social awareness. The decision of the Admissions Committee on this matter shall be final. 
  • The final list of candidates to be admitted will be decided after the interview. The selection will be based on performance in the interview, scores in the written test (or, in one of the four national level entrance tests mentioned above), professional experience and marks obtained in 10th, 12th and Under-graduate/Bachelor’s examinations.

  • Applicants must upload all their educational transcripts and certificates along with all other supporting documents as specified on the application portal.

    Analytical Ability (20 MCQs)
    Design Awareness (20MCQs)
    IT and Social Awareness and Written Communication: 1 Essay (No more than 700 words)

     

    Sample Essay Question: How do you think the use of digital technologies in online education during the COVID-19 pandemic have impacted different segments of the population in India?

  • The candidates who have a valid score in CAT 2022, CEED 2023, CUCET 2023 or TISS NET 2023 may be exempted from appearing for a written test at IIIT Bangalore.

Tridib Roy Chowdhury Scholarship is being endowed to extend a 100% tuition waiver, for a year, to an entering M.Sc. (Digital Society) student. This scholarship will apply a merit-cum-means criterion, with preference to a woman applicant. The candidate will be identified by the Admissions Committee of the M.Sc. programme.

Others scholarships may be made available after admission as per institute guidelines.

Eligibility

  • An under-graduate degree (of at least 3 years duration) in any discipline (including arts, science, commerce, design, management, law, engineering etc.) with a first division/class from a recognised University. 
  • Applicants should possess an under-graduate degree obtained from a recognized University/Education Board which is obtained at the end of at least a 3-year full-time under-graduate programme after 10+2 years of school/high-school/pre-university education. 
  • International applicants may also be required to provide a degree equivalence certificate obtained from the Association of Indian Universities (www.aiu.ac.in).    

How to apply

  • Applications will open on 15th March 2023. As a first step, register on the Pravesh Portal. After registration, you will receive your login credentials by email. Log in with your credentials on the same URL and start applying. For registration, use: https://pravesh.iiitb.net/#/
  • Applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee of USD 50 after registration. Details of fee payment will be communicated to the applicant after registartion.

Selection Process

  • International applicants should have a valid GRE or GMAT score. In addition, applicants who have obtained their under-graduate degree in a medium of instruction other than English, should also have a valid score on TOEFL/IELTS/STEP Plus. Those who do not have valid scores on the above tests will be required to go through the online tests conducted by IIIT Bangalore in May 2023.
  • Applications will be shortlisted based on their scores on GRE/GMAT and TOEFL/IELTS/STEP Plus (or, the IIITB test as mentioned above), their prior educational performance and a SOP (Statement of Purpose) that they will have to upload on the IIIT Bangalore Admissions Portal. Shortlisted applicants will have to go through an interview using a video-calling facility.
  • Final list of selected candidates will be announced after incorporating their performance in the interview.

Eligibility
 
  1. Who can apply?
    Students from any discipline who are in their final year of Bachelors, recent graduates professionals with work experience are eligible to apply. 
  2. I am awaiting the results of my undergraduate degree. Am I eligible to apply?
    Yes. You may apply with the latest academic record available. However, you will have to submit the provisional certificate of completing the Bachelor degree by December 2022. 
  3. Is there any age limit to apply for the course?
    No, there is no age limit to apply for the course.
  4. Is there a grade prerequisite for the programme?
    The applicant should have a first division/class in their Bachelor’s degree. 
  5. Is this a full-time course or a part-time course?
    This is a two-year, full-time residential programme. Exemptions from residential rule are granted in rare circumstances after evaluating requests on a case by case basis.

  5. When is the entrance exam for the programme?
    Written test will be conducted online on 9th and 10th June, 2023 for candidates without a valid score in CAT 2022, CEED 2023, CUCET 2023 or TISS NET 2023.
  6. How do I prepare for the entrance exam?

  7. Can I be exempted from the entrance exam?
    The candidates who have a valid score in CAT 2022, CEED 2023, CUCET 2023 or TISS NET 2023 may be exempted from appearing for a written test at IIIT Bangalore.
  8. For the exempt categories, is there a cutoff for the scores?
    There is no explicit cutoff for exempt categories. However, applicants will be evaluated cumulatively based on their performance in undergraduate education, submitted exam scores and personal interviews.
  9. If I am exempted from the entrance exam, do I still have to appear for the personal interview?
    Yes, candidates will have to appear for personal interviews even if they are exempted from the entrance examination.
  10. Where will the entrance exam and personal interviews be conducted?
    Both the entrance exam and the personal interview will be conducted online. 
  11. How do I know if I am offered admission?
    The first list of selected candidates will be notified via email by 19th June, 2023 (additional lists may be released if required).
  12. Is this programme entirely residential?
    Yes, this is a fully residential programme. However, under special circumstances, students may be permitted to be day scholars. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis
